About this release
GPT-Live is OpenAI’s new generation of voice models powering ChatGPT Voice. It uses a full-duplex architecture that lets the model listen and speak simultaneously, enabling natural back-and-forth, active listening cues like “mhmm,” and better handling of pauses or interruptions. When deeper reasoning or search is needed, it delegates to a background frontier model (GPT-5.5 at launch) while keeping the conversation flowing. Two variants launched together: GPT-Live-1 (default for paid users) and GPT-Live-1 mini (default for free users).
